FUNDRAISING - LET'S PLAY SOME FUN DONKEY BASKETBALL!!

Maybe your school already has an annual Donkey Basketball game each year as a fundraiser for a school club or team. If not, here's a raucous, fun way to make some pretty good money and get the whole school involved as well. And even if a current group at your school has an annual game, perhaps in the spring, maybe you can schedule your OWN event in the fall and still take advantage of a great fundraising opportunity.

If you're somehow not familiar with this fun activity, and I see signs for donkey basketball at many schools throughout the region, the idea is simple - play a basketball game in your own school gym while riding donkeys. It's a HILARIOUS event as some donkeys cooperate while others, well, let's say they just make the floor dirty. Watch students or teachers flail around trying to get their donkey to do SOMETHING!! And no, these are not high scoring affairs but they will leave spectators and players alike in laughter, a great school memory.

You schedule the event for a particular evening and can play several "games" that evening. I usually see four groups playing in two semifinal games, then the winners play a "championship" game. The teams," well that's completely up to you - maybe Seniors vs. Juniors and Sophomores vs. Freshmen, or varsity basketball players vs. faculty members - it's completely up to you. I've seen some schools make around $1,500 in profits coming from ticket sales. It's a really fun night that is remembered for some time.

Buckeye Donkeyball of Columbus, Ohio works with schools throughout Pennsylvania to provide a fun activity for all and a great fundraiser. Check out their website at www.donkeyball.com for more information. And check out two other options, donkey baseball and donkey racing, as fundraiser alternatives.
