HAPPY THANKSGIVING: Enjoy A Much Deserved Break

Hello! Woo hoo, we made it to Turkey Day! Remember last year at this time? BIG snow storm. Thankfully our weather has been really tame this month.

On this short week I hope you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. Take a few days and take it easy - unless of course you do that Black Friday thing and then hustle around for the start of rifle deer season in Pennsylvania. If that's you then go out and have a BUSY holiday break! As for me, I'll take it easy.

I had a great time last week attending the JEA fall journalism convention in Washington D.C. I really enjoyed leading a breakout session on storytelling with over 50 students from across the country. And I had a chance to meet some people I've only emailed before, top journalism instructors from everywhere. In my case I stayed with a relative in northern Virginia and took the DC Metro train into town every day, a real educational experience.

Have you checked out the November episodes of The Yearbooking Report? Be sure to get great information on improving your page designing, something most staffs really struggle with. And advisers, be sure to listen to the full length podcast for the complete interview with design expert John Cutsinger for some fascinating insights. Good luck to those remaining teams from the neighborhood still playing in the state playoffs. It's time for winter sports but let's go football teams, win that state title!

Short week, short update...

Let's keep things short and sweet this week, just a few notes for you...

REMEMBER JOSTENS TECH SUPPORT: Occasionally I hear from an adviser about some problem or question involving Yearbook Avenue or our YearTech software. You know I'm happy to assist but in many cases you'll get a faster answer by contacting Jostens Tech Support. Our folks are the best in the business no matter the question and they are on duty weekdays from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern time. No matter if it's a YBA or YT question or something about ReplayIt or other computer issues, Tech Support can offer you quick help.

If you don't have this posted already, write down the number for Jostens Tech Support and keep it posted in your room for your use anytime - 800-328-2435. Don't let a question or problem sit, pick up the phone and get a quick answer! Yes, they're off for the holiday break from Thursday through Sunday but they'll be back on duty next Monday while our schools have the day off.

BUT YBA NEVER TAKES A BREAK: You're home later this week, Thanksgiving is over and you're BORED. Or you're just behind on your Yearbook Avenue work. YBA is always open 24/7, just log on from anywhere and get back to it.

SAME WITH REPLAYIT: No break here either. Folks can upload fresh images anytime, maybe from their own Thanksgiving celebration or their efforts next week from out in the field. Before heading out on break this week encourage Replay It users to send in their own holiday or hunting images anytime..

FREE TIME THIS WEEK, CHECK THE DIGITAL CLASSROOM: If you haven't already this fall, take a little time and check out the cool Digital Classroom on YBA. There is so much educational and support material in there you'll be amazed. Of note watch the neat instructional videos on all sorts of topics - they are all brief and to the point. Look over the Starters for Success for great lessons and tutorials on a growing list of yearbook and journalism topics. Examine the Story Starters to get some great new ideas for covering all kinds of topics in your book this year. You have the free time this long weekend - check out this great resource.

HIGH SCHOOL ADVISERS, READ YOUR JOSTENS YEARBOOK LOVE ADVISER & STAFF MAGAZINE: Be on the lookout for the new fall edition in your mailbox one day soon. It's filled with great stories, insights and tips for any yearbook staff,.

Happy holiday!
