JOSTENS PHOTO CONTEST NOW OPEN: And We're Looking for YOUR Entries

Hello! Now under two weeks until Christmas break. Have your holiday shopping done yet? Yours truly still has a little to do, better get on it!

I've been waiting for our first real round of S-N-O-! in the neighborhood and it looks like it may come this week, especially in northern areas. When I saw snow falling all the way down in south Texas late last week it made me wonder about this winter, might be a humdinger.

A number of spring yearbook schools have a first page deadline next week before the break. Repeating again, work hard this week and next week, finish as much as you can. Then you can go off on break with a lot less to worry about. If you need some help or advice, please drop me a line!

No need to wait, enter the annual Jostens Photo Contest now!

Jostens has decided to open entry time for our annual photo contest now rather than later.

The final deadline is still March 1 but now yearbook staffs can enter right away instead of waiting.

And DON'T WAIT - I've already seen some pretty good images this fall from student staffers across the neighborhood.

For my Jostens advisers you may have noticed a story note on your Yearbook Avenue website - check it out now down in the Yearbook Avenue News section of the YBA home page. Click on that story link for more information including the direct link for the contest.

Your students can enter up to three images per category. Be sure to read over the contest rules, including getting permission to use images of someone else for the contest.

On that YBA link also check out winning photo entries from the last several years, see what great student images really look like.

And once again there are a large number of categories to enter. Note the new category below...

ACADEMICS & COMMUNITY SERVICE: Show students learning, in or out of the classroom.

GRADUATION: Capture the emotion, color and vibrancy of graduation day. Photos can be from the 2017 graduation as long as the photographer is enrolled in high school for the 2017-2018 school year.

LANDSCAPE (New category): Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes.

PHOTO ILLUSTRATION & MANIPULATION: Photos in this category can be specially posed or electronically enhanced to illustrate a topic or idea.

PORTRAIT: Capture facial qualities, expression or mood and environment of your subject as the main focus.

SPORTS: ATHLETES IN ACTION: Wherever they are, we’re looking for athletes in action.

SPORTS SIDELINES & SCHOOL SPIRIT: Show moments that capture school pride in all its forms, or activities at sports game but not just the game action.

STUDENT LIFE & TRADITIONS: Capture student life in a way that showcases school culture and tradition.

YEARBOOKERS IN ACTION: Go behind the scenes and capture the making of the yearbook. Photos of staff selling yearbooks, engaging in team building activities and traveling to workshops, in addition to working in the classroom, are all welcomed.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CATEGORY: Entries on any school-related topic must be taken by a middle school or junior high student of at least 13 years of age. Entrants may submit up to three photos in this category.

And yes, there are plenty of PRIZES for winners including the GRAND PRIZE image, the best of show.

So don't wait - it's easy to enter online and it's FREE. Before going off on break, start sending in some entries!
